a network and platform for international, multicultural and diasporic artists
ARE WE THERE YET?
@CLF Art Cafe (Bussey Building)
25-26 October 2019
ARE WE THERE YET? 2019 was a global, multidisciplinary two-day festival of international theatre, poetry, prose, performance art, musical theatre, spoken word, audio installations, music and more from artists from 14 countries, including Canada, Hong Kong, India, Italy, South Korea, Trinidad and Tobago, the USA and the UK.
DECOLONISING THE CANON
For the last 2 years, Global Origins has been conducting workshops on Decolonising the Canon and Writing Ethically with Identity for drama school students, emerging theatre professional and educators. We have led workshops at leading institutions including the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and the Young Vic Theatre.
We recently began an open source, collaboratively authored reader on decolonising theatre. It is available here.
HERE: A DIGITAL HUB FOR INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS
In May 2020, Global Origins started a free, easy-to-access Slack network for artists who may be struggling due to the Covid crisis. The network is a space where artists who may be separated from home and/or family can receive emotional support, reach out for creative collaboration, share their work, discuss recipes and have conversations with other artists who may be experiencing similar problems.
ARE WE THERE YET? EN ROUTE
Are We There Yet? En Route was intended to be two evenings of multidisciplinary scratch work at the Kings Head Theatre on March 15th and 16th. Unfortunately, this event has been postponed due to Covid-19.
Part of our commitment to artists is to continue our working relationships with them over time and develop their work over a sustained period rather than offering a one-off showcase opportunity. We are also committed to paying our artists for their time and craft. We have worked with all of the programmed artists on previous iterations of their work.
We are currently exploring possibilities for digitally iterating Are We There Yet? En Route in the new year.

'Intersectionality and International Artists with Global Origins'
Introduction and Campaign Video
Global Origins is run by Aneesha Srinivasan (an Indian writer & director) and Emma Jude Harris (a Jewish American director and dramaturg). We met while both studying at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, and began Global Origins to offer support for international, multicultural and diasporic artists, and a platform for them to stage work (in any language, of any genre, at any stage of development) without fear of prejudice or alienation.
